ANNUALS AND PERENNIALS

When and what should I use to fertilize my annuals and perennials?
As soon as you plant! You have the option of a weekly fertilizing with Miracle-Gro for when you water and we also carry ColorBurst granular fertilizer that feeds for up to three months.

When do I cut back flowering bulbs?
You must wait until the foliage turns yellow so that the plant can return its nutrients back to the corm of the bulb.

What is the difference between annuals and perennials?
Annuals only last for one season , while perennials will return year after year.

What is the advantage of annuals over perennials?
Even though you have to replace them every year, annuals will bloom the entire season where as perennials will only bloom, just a month or two.

I go on vacation and worry about my containers in the hot summer sun. What should I do?
You can use soil moist crystals to mix in with your potting soil to help retain moisture for longer periods of time.

I have aphids on my bedding plants and am not sure how to get rid of them. What should I use?
Use Malathian or Ortho Systemic insect killer.

What is the natural way to keep aphids off my vegetables without using chemicals?
Plant marigolds around your veggies to naturally ward off pests.

What should I do about the squirrels, deer and rabbits that are eating my plants?
Use the Hot Pepper Wax and spray on plant foliage to discourage any unwanted pests.

What is a good way to prevent weeds from my flower bed?
Use Miracle-Gro Weed Preventer to keep weeds such as clover and chickweed out from your bedding plants.

What do I have, moles or voles?
Think of it this way, moles eat grubs (moles=meat) and voles eat plants (voles=vegetables). To rid yourself of these pesky rodents you can pour the product Mole Stop in their tunnels or plant your new plants in a mixture of soil and permatil.

How much are pine needles?
$4.75 per bale

How much is mulch and do you deliver?
$27.00 per cubic yard and yes, we deliver!

Can I purchase mulch by the bag?
Yes, our bags of mulch are $4.49 for a 3 cubic yard bag

Does Price Nursery carry organic products?
Yes, we have recently added an extensive line of organic products for your lawn & garden.

Will Price Nursery put containers together for me?
Yes, we would be happy to! Our knowledgeable staff will work with you to select from our large selection of plants for your indoor or outdoor containers! We also make beautiful centerpieces for any occasion you may have.

What do you charge to plant a container?
We only charge you for the plant material, soil and minimal labor fee to plant.

Can you tell me how much certain quantities will cover?
Below is a general listing of products and how much they will cover:

1 yard of topsoil will cover 150 sq. feet approximately 2" deep

HOUSEPLANTS

What are some names of plants that can grow or survive with the roots emerged in water?
Bamboo, African Violets, Spider plants and Lilies

Is softened water bad for my houseplants?
Softened water uses sodium ions to replace calcium in the water supply. With time, it will kill just about any houseplant. It is better to use distilled or unsoftened water.

What is causing my outdoor China doll to show "cotton-like" spots on the leaves & branches?
Those cottony spots could be cottony cushion scale. If their numbers are small, you can swab them off with insecticidal soap or alcohol-dipped cotton swab. If the numbers are too high, you need to turn to a systemic insecticide.

I work in a small office with fresh air and very little light. What plant would do best to to generate oxygen?
Norfolk Island pine, spider plant, wandering Jew, pothos ("Devil's Ivy"), peace lilly and Dallas and Boston Ferns.

How do I take care of a Zebra plant?
Do not put it in direct sunlight, it should be shaded continuously. Do not let it dry out. Room temperature should not drop below 60 degrees. Fertilize only when plant is showing active growth.

Are there any houseplants that are good for people with allergies?
Houseplants like the rubber tree are good, along with dumbcane, English ivy, Snazashe plant and umbrella tree.

How can I get my bromeliad to re bloom?
Try putting the plant inside a closed plastic bag with a cut apple. Normally, they bloom from one to six months after the plant has been removed from the bag. Keep the apple/plant & bag combo in contact for no more than four to five days. Be sure plant is getting bright, indirect light.

What causes aloe vera plant leaves to turn brown?
Over watering is the culprit, so back off. It will not reverse the rot, but you can take off the leaves from the stem, allow it to cure for a day and repot in pasteurized well-drained soil.

What causes a clear gel substance to form on leaves of some houseplants?
What you are seeing is the excrement from aphids or spider mites on the plant. Wash the plant with tepid water or wipe off the surfaces with a wet cloth dipped in insecticidal soap.

Is there any benefit to adding used coffee grounds to the soil?
Used coffee grounds improve soil. You can stir the grounds into the soil or add the grounds to the top of the soil. All veggies benefit from used coffee grounds.

What is the easiest orchid to grow?
The classic beginner orchid is the phalaenopsis, which is known as the moth orchid.

What are some common houseplants that are toxic to animals?
Asparagus fern, caladium, chrysanthemum, onions, garlic, dumb cane, mistletoe, philodendron, poinsettia and umbrella plant.

We carry a variety of cast iron, wood and concrete benches, tables and chairs for your deck or patio. Add an outdoor rug from our large selection along with potted creations and you will have a new outdoor room addition to your home.

What types of gardening tools do you carry?
We carry a large selection of gardening gloves for men and women. We also carry grass seed spreaders, loppers, shears and pruners. There is also a nice selection of watering cans, large or small, plastic or metal.

Do you carry wind chimes?
Yes! We carry wind chimes of different sizes and finishes.

Do you carry mats to place at my front door?
Yes! We carry all year round beautiful doormats made of coir, rubber and iron.
